Agreed. The term 'Acne Inversa' is best dropped; whilst both diseases are marked by comedone formation it is not clear what is inverse about HS!
Dear Geoffrey, "inverse" is in analogy to inverse psoriasis a manifestation of a certain disease in an unusual region. The term hidradenitis, however, is a misnomer, since it is not a disease of sweat glands at all.

it definitely affects literature search and it is a problem in many areas like acne agminata or LMDF or the ichthyosis group of disorders and even in dermatoscopy ( correct word) and dermoscopy ( more common) or granuloma faciale( where examiners trouble students by asking what level is the granuloma situated?!!)

...also in Fitzpatrick dermatology chapter it is said- HS is not acne. closed comedones are not seen, since the deep part of the follicle is involved and not its superficial compartments as seen in acne on convex skin surfaces....
So can the inverse analogy be appropriate??
Also, yesterday I read an article from British journal of dermatology concerning chronic urticaria being associated with osteoporosis apart from metabolic syndrome due to chronic inflammation of chronic urticaria....
Will Hidradenitis suppurativa due to chronic inflammation also be associated with osteoporosis ??
HS is associated with subclinical atherosclerosis.
