Molecular Vibration of the benzene molecule gives the "hand" pattern in the UV Absorption specturm. see Z Phys D Atoms Molecules and Clusters, 1991, 20,43-46. Vibrational (and sometime rotational) fine structure is present in the benzene spectrum.
