I've studied for how to run 2 mediation and 2 moderators ( 1 for first stage, 1 for second stage) SEW in Mplus. However, the first stage moderator is a congruence variable which is consist of two variables (and each with four items to measure). Cheung (2009) suggested the way in LISERAL syntax, but I've only learned Mplus. Could anyone prove how the syntax of putting congruence variable as first stage moderator?
Keith Hsieh A moderating variable, often known as a moderator variable or simply M, alters the magnitude or direction of an impact between two variables, x, and y. In other words, it has an impact on the connection between an independent variable or predictor variable and a dependent variable or criterion variable.
If x is the predictor variable and y is the outcome variable in a causal connection, then z is the moderator variable that influences the causal relationship between x and y.
Regression is all that is required to test a variable as a moderator. Multiply your IV by the moderator variable to get an interaction variable. Then, in the model, perform the multiple regression using IV, Moderator, and Interaction. Examine the moderating impact by examining the Interaction regression coefficient.
@Keith, i am not an expert in mpls, but in SPSS or similar, since a mediator is a possible explanation for a relationship between factors and DV, while and moderators affect the magnitude and maybe direction of the effect of factors on DV.
Mediators can be checked with stepwise forward regression and differences between zero ordercorrelation versus partial correlation. Also LISREAL and SEM can use latent variables, indirect factors, to show this, you create the latent construct, sets Path between the moderator, the factor, to the latent, and to the DV.
As noted above, moderators can be checked through interaction, most software for GPS does this but you can add Factor1 * Factor2 as another term to check their interaction on DV.
