Sir, I have done PM about 100 accidental squirrel in find in my campus in one year. I find various ectoparasite (flea, mites, ticks) and endoparasites, but I did not identified them. how I identify please advise me.
What is the species of squirrel you are dealing with, and what is the location where they were collected? Knowing this will be helpful to anyone advising you. There has been substantial research with parasites of squirrels, as well as most other rodents Ectoparasites might also include fly larvae (warbles or myiasis). Endoparasites would likely include mostly nematodes, with a modest number of cestodes and perhaps some trematodes. Most of the nematodes and cestodes would be intestinal, but some in the liver or other viscera, the body cavity, subcutaneous region, and others. Endoparasites will also include some protists, especially coccidians in the digestive tract and haemosporidians in the blood. A search on Google Scholar using the binomial for the squirrel species along with "parasites", "helminths", "ectoparasites", and other terms would be helpful to start.
the squirrel is three-striped palm squirrel (Funambulus palmarum), and location is Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, India. sir endoparasite is also find in the muscle as cyst.
sir i also search the google but no more help. please advice me.
May be I can help you with the flea and tick, please send me some pictures of the tick (dorsal and ventral view), and pictures of the flea too ([email protected]). I´m gonna need some pictures too of the hipostome dentition of the tick for an accurate identification (ventral side).
