Hello all, I'm about to do a sampling of a landfill soil to do the characterization of the possible Mps inside, I follow a sampling method where it will eventually be oven-dried, but I don't think I will do that in the meantime, so would you please enlighten me how to keep the soil sample until further analysis? can I keep it at low temperature or any other suggestions? an answer would means a lot for me, thank you!
Store landfill soil samples in clean, non-plastic containers and keep them refrigerated at around 4 °C to preserve their integrity until analysis. Avoid freezing or drying before lab processing to prevent altering sample properties.
For accurate microplastic analysis, store soil and sediment samples meticulously. Use pre-cleaned glass or aluminium containers, never plastic. Handle samples wearing natural fibre clothing and nitrile gloves in a clean environment to prevent contamination.
For storage, refrigerate at ~4°C for short-term or freeze at -20°C for long-term preservation. If drying samples, use low temperatures (40-60°C) to avoid plastic degradation. Label samples clearly and include field and lab blanks to monitor for contamination. Process samples as soon as possible after collection to ensure data integrity.
