2) Qualitative Research in Business & Mgmt (Chapter 9, 2009, Sage Publication) - by Michael D. Myers (when you want to perform business & mgmt research based on grounded theory)

3) Qualitative Research in Practice Examples for Discussion and Analysis (Chapter 7-8, 2002, Jossey-Bass) - by Sharan B. Merriam and Associates (contains examples of actual research based on grounded theory)

For an overview of the different varieties of GT, try:

Developing Grounded Theory: The Second Generation. J. Morse (ed.) Left Coast Press.

To my way of thinking there are three main versions of GT today: one identified with Strauss (who died in 1996), one identified with Glaser, and one called Constructivist GT which identified with Kathy Charmaz and others.

For Strauss' version, I prefer the 2nd edition of his book with Corbin, because it is the last one that Strauss himself actually worked on (but note that this book is recently out in a 4th edition).

For Glaser's version, the best introduction is Theoretical Sensitivity, The Sociology Press, 1978.

For the Constructivist version, the best is the 2nd edition of Charmaz, Constructing Grounded Theory.

For the constructivist view of Grounded Theory, Kathy Charmaz' 'Constructing Grounded Theory' is a good start and the attached video is an excellent conversation to get you started...

There are some excellent suggestions above and it is always worth reading plenty of material around qualitative methods before deciding which method is best for you and the research you wish to undertake. I wanted to use GT but reconsidered when I had read about the various methods and decided to use thematic analysis, which is guided by steps but is more flexible than GT. See - Braun, V. a. C., V. (2006). "Using thematic analysis in psychology." Qualitative Research in Psychology 3: 77-101.

I agree with Heidi, Constructing Grounded Theory by Charmaz is brilliant. It takes the reader through the GT process in a way that is easy to understand, and with some useful examples.
