Can anyone with an interest in the occupational health of firefighters (or other emergency service workers) recommend any papers regarding the health trajectories of these workers after they have retired from, or left, the service?
So far, the only papers on this sort of topic that I have been able to find are those on British civil servants (national government employees) eg, papers based on the 'Whitehall Studies' of Marmot and others; and ex-service personnell, eg Bergman.
While there is an extensive literature on firefighter morbidity and mortality, none of the papers seem to look specifically at the post-service part of their lives.
