There has been a lot of talk (and blame) lately in the news and social media about electronic hacking between prominent governments. Quantum computing, with its use of continuous bits ("qubits") instead of the usual binary ones, as well as of state superposition and quantum entanglement, promises to be the ultimate in cybersecurity and the only way to prevent international hacking of sensitive governmental information.
As Bruce Schneier (paraphrasing Peter G. Neumann) wrote a couple of decades ago: "If you think technology can solve your security problems, then you don't understand the problems and you don't understand the technology."
Quantum computing won't prevent governmental (or any other) hacking. To quote another security guru, Gary McGraw: "Let's get down to the hard work of actually building code that doesn't suck." I personally believe that the only way to combat hacking is to focus on software security for all software - as we are doing in the SoS-Agile project.
