Online learning, technology in the classroom and the use of electronic games in the classroom are being hailed as the new frontiers in pedagogy. Have there been any large scale control studies among a representative population samples of students to test effectiveness? In the 1990's certain videos were promoted as having the ability to enhance infant's cognition thereby enhancing learning. Yet a large scale prospective study (Schmidt et al (2009) in Pediatrics 123(3):e370-e375) found otherwise. Will these latest trends be yet more cases of proliferation without substantiation?
