I was imagining the role of this feature of B cells in differences in duration of protective immunity induced by different vaccines. For example, currently available foot-and-mouth virus vaccines are protective for a few months in bovines, while rinderpest vaccine afforded protection for a few years in the same species, and poxvirus life-long immunity in humans. Once established, it should be considered as one of the biomarkers for establishing the correlates of protection against an infectious agent.
