That would be quite an interesting área of research. (Its interest depends heavily on what you mean by "social issues", and where in the world you are conducting the survey, once prepared.) As you probably know, for some of us "social issues" means "political action".

The study would be done in Canada. Advocating for Social justice would be characterized by advocating for multiple cultural identities, sexual orientations and gender identities, and those seen as having disabilities in the context of the school. Specifically, in physical education.

As a social pedagogue, my own take is that social justice has to be felt on the affect level rather than taught on the cognitive level. I am very pleased to see that replies to this important question are gathering momentum. One sometimes feels that the pedagogy of social justice is an incidental appendage to a much stronger focus on cognitive learning; namely A,B, C and 1, 2, 3. I forgot to mention Lee the inspirational work of Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, in which the nurturing of non-violent resistance to oppression is explicitly affirmed.

The means here are stated in Paulo´s Adult Literacy Programme, which not only addresses reading skills, but - crucial this - the re-learning of the rightful place of the poor and oppressed in a divisive society. The upshot, one hopes, is both a cognitive and a visceral understanding of the existence of social injustice and the wherewithal - a strongly comprehended and deeply felt moral compass - to affirm social justice. PS. Have a look at some contemporary social pedagogic texts, Lee. The Big Idea in European social pedagogy today is the mobilization of the Head (the intellectual) in the service of the Heart (compassion). We need both in the pursuit of social justice.
