It is a particular question for colleagues in Entomology, because many times we need to publishing images taken from the microscope (genitalia, etc.), and I have found repeatedly that even the co-authors try to dissuade me to not mention this "gadget" in "Materials and Methods" although the images are of unquestionable scientific quality.
Hi, No but it depends on resolution of image. Majority of journals requires at least 300 dpi of resolution.

Hi, I think there are no problems. To mention or not to mention would both be okay, provided your pictures are real and reliable, and with resolution of 300 dpi or more.

As already said, if the quality of the images is OK, you can use it. Try to use the technical name of the Iphone, like "pictures were taked with an A1457 iPhone 5s".

Why not to mention, no mistry . procedure should be brief, we are not talking of angle
There should be no problem if the resolution matches the journal requirement
As journal editor I never put any problems if the images are good enough; additionally, with photoshop you can adjust some images to the 300dpi rule, and works fine, even for journals like Zootaxa

It really was a mystery, because the quality of the images that I get with the Iphone is good and is a good tool that I always have in the lab to take pictures through the microscope.
