Planted potato seed from a seed pod from last fall. plants grew massive seed pods some being 2.5 - 3 inches in diameter then ripened to red. Is this normal?
Mostly potato berries on maturity remain green in colour or few genotypes turn to yellow colour or purple. In our collections we donot have potato variety for which berry turn to red on maturity.
Thank you for the response Dr. Malhotra. The original genotype the seed was derived from is at this time lost. We did not expect seed last year or or that the see would reproduce this year. However, it is good to hear when mature the seed pods turn color other then green.

In normal routine most of berries drops from the plant before maturity. Only few ripened remain on plant.
Dr. Malhotra. As you have been in the field of potato development for a number of years. I have a basic question.
If the potato plant focuses all energy on seed pod production would it then neglect tuber production?
