EBP implementation of risk assessment (for PONV) and targeted prophylaxis have decreased the incidence of PONV in the PACU. During my recent data collection, I am noticing that when patients experience PONV after leaving the PACU it is upon arrival to their room or after getting out of bed to the bathroom.
Has anyone implemented a process to address this? Studied this phenomenon?

Your data collection seems to suggest PONV is affected by some factors in a location or standing up. I have not see post operative nausea in a patient that was treated Pre-Op.
I have seen post operative nausea after treatment of pre-op antiemetics. This is generally patients who confirm that they get car sickness easily.
We have seen that. The addition of scopalamine patches & dexamethasone before leaving the OR has pretty much resolved that issue.

Dear Sir,
I observed PONV in post op clients to be in a lesser degree if clients are first made to sit in bed in a semi Fowler"s position,then made to dangle,stand with assistance before they slowly walk with assistance to the bathroom.
@Sofia. Orthostatic hypotension can definitely be a component. Thank you for your input.
