I googled 'Transkei ethnobotany' with scholar.googl.com and came up with a number of ethnobotany articles:
Traditional herbal medicine in Transkei, R.B. Bhat, T.V. Jacobs http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/037887419501276J
The Bio-diversity of traditional vegetables of the Transkei region in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, R.B. Bhat , T. Rubuluza http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S025462991630463X
Medicinal plants and traditional practices of Xhosa people in the Transkei region of Eastern Cape, South Africa, R.B. Bhat
That guy, Bhant, if still active, is at Department of Botany, University of Transkei, Umtata 5099, South Africa [email protected]
A review of ethnobotanical research in southern Africa, B.-E. van Wyk http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0254629916304471
But maybe you were looking for something else? Naomi
Yes, I have all of those, but that is a different part from the Old Transkei Bhat writes about, It is not not as far North as Matatiele! I hoped there might be some new work specific to the Matatiele Project? and especially archaeobotanical work?
Yes, I have master degree in Botany and my Master's Dissertation was in " Ethnobotanical Study of Koshitappu Wildlife Reserve (Ramsar Conservation Site) , Nepal- Title: "Indigenous Medicinal Plant Resources Used by Tribal People in Eastern Nepal".
Hello Yvette, Thanks for your interest in our project. Yes - we have a couple of very interesting studies completed in the last few years. One in 2015 by Stephen van den Heever (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Stephen_Van_Den_Heever) entitled 'Characterising the archaeobotanical remains of Gladstone Rockshelter near
Matatiele, Eastern Cape.' (Co-Supervisors C. Sievers, M. McGranaghan).
Thanks Sam, I am afraid the paper is not on his Researchgate page though and cannot be found on Google Scholar either? Would love a copy if possible sometime?
