ZnO , thin layer by spin coating , using precursor, yoy can olso doped ZnO by RF-sputtering using target obtained using nanopowder obtained by sol gel .

I agree with the above comments. Si wafers are very cheap to buy, and growing ZnO films by chemical-based methods should be fairly straight-forward and cheap. You may want to look into sol-gel and metallo-organic solution deposition.

I agree with buying Si wafers. To apply ZnO coatings there are several options depending on what thicknesses and properties you are interested in. RF Sputtering, CVD, and ALD are all pretty straight forward for ZnO.

I agree with Jacob. For ZnO see J. of Phys. Chem. C, the article from Hao Ming Chen et. al.- "Multi-Band gap-Sensitized ZnO nanorod photoelectrode arrays for water splitting: An x-ray absorption spectroscopy approach for the electronic evolution under solar ullumination". Very good article that will give you a method to sinthesize the ZnO seed layers and ZnO nanowires.

We will not get silica wafers but We will get Si coatings with nm thickness by using sol-gel method and using organosilane compounds like TEOS, MTMS, MTES, etc. And these Si coatings are water repellent and adhesive.

you want to buy Si by seeing its grade and cost, ofcorse there r some methods but they are costly depending on the quality and crystallinity but ZnO film u can grow it by simple hydrothermal method used to grow nanorods just by increasing the reagents that are used along with the growth rate

you want to grow ZnO film ,using zinc sulphate heta hydrade without surfactant method using NaoH solution is better for bio mechanical method.It is not costly Process it is easily synthesis in lab.

If you want high quality or single-crystalline growth, then physical vapor deposition wont work for silicon, but you can get fairly high quality biaxial ZnO using sputtering or ebeam evaporation. Silicon will grow amorphous and slightly porous using these methods. For ZnO, if you employ oblique angle deposition during growth, you can partially control the crystal orientation and quality.

Here are a few articles for ZnO ALD in case anyone is interested. Depending on your needs there are companies and labs that will do service runs. They make it pretty easy to see if you can get the properties you want without having to invest in the equipment up front. Luckily there are many methods to deposit ZnO.

Ijaz, I would be glad to. I can name two companies off the top of my head. The first is Beneq in Finland, they would be my first choice. I have met some of their people in the past and think they are good people to work with. The second is Cambridge Nanotech in the US. I haven't dealt with them, I just know they do service runs. I'm sure there are others that I can't remember at the moment. If you are looking for collaborations there are also university based research groups that you can work with.
