There used to be a great utility called X1 that let me search for words within all my saved pdfs, but it's not supported anymore...

I'm looking for suggestions for a program that will index all the words in my saved pdfs, so that as I type in a string of search terms (e.g. Smith Jones kinase protease solar system) all of the papers that contain those words will be displayed in a list and - this is the key part - those words will be highlighted in a view of the pdfs that appears next to the list. It was tremendously handy to scroll through that list and see the relevant page of the pdfs; made finding a figure or a certain paragraph easy!

What I'm not looking for is a keyword search or something that indexes titles and abstracts (like Papers) or a citation manager (like EndNote). Mendeley generates some kinds of list, but I've tested it and it misses a lot of papers that contain my search terms so I know it isn't indexing the full text. I think what I want is properly called a desktop search utility, but so far none of the ones I've checked out show the view of the pdf.
