Iʻm looking for good, peer reviewed studies examining GM crops and their associated chemical usage. I am particularly interested in the following:
- GM yields compared to non-GM yields
- GM chemical usage compared to non-GM crops
- GM water usage compared to non-GM crops
- Any studies related to health effects from GM crops
- Any studies related to health/environmental effects of chemical usage associated with GM crops
People must have some suggestions? It is a 100 billion dollar industry worldwide every year.
I don't know how much data are available on these questions, but you could try looking in the insect pest control literature. We found a few of these as bycatch studies in a review we did on animal effects on non-GM crop yield, e.g. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0261219400000661 and http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0261219499000927
Based on my knowledge, GM crops do not increase the yield by itself, but they reduce the potential loss due to insect/pests. Please check the Wageningen University website, there should be some very useful information.
