The fiftieth TOP500 list of the fastest supercomputers in the world has China overtaking the US in the total number of ranked systems by a margin of 202 to 143. It is the largest number of supercomputers China has ever claimed on the TOP500 ranking, with the US presence shrinking to its lowest level since the list’s inception 25 years ago.

Given number of implemented Supercomputers worldwide, will these powerful machines be able to connect and work as one Ultra Powerful Super Computer?
There are not enough "embarassingly parallel" problems to justify the cost to set up such a demonstration, and it is much cheaper to build a bigger supercomputer than to maintain a efficient network that connects two supercomputing centers.
With right software design and planing, any high computation problem could be processed in distributed manner. Even if it means distribution of processing dataset.
Than, supercomputers could be easily interconnected to share loads and provide combined computing power. Optical Internet infrastructure is already current state of technology, so delays and bandwidth between nodes is not big issue anymore.
