I am modelling a pile soil system in abaqus. The first step is geostatic. Total there are 5 steps. It’s running and finishing step one in 50 increments and aborted in 2nd step. When I deactivated the steps from 2 to 5 and try to run the job, it’s not completing the first step in 100 increments also. What can be possible reason?
I'd suggest to decrease step size, try increasing the number of elements in the analysis and check the boundary conditions and surface interactions. It's probably reaching high displacements and deformations.
When you are using ABAQUS/Standard for soil-structure interaction problems, there are many convergence problems due to contacts, boundary conditions, mesh, etc. There are some steps you can follow:
1) You can change the contact type (Self Contact, Surface to surface contact, etc.)
2) You can change the load increment. You can define an amplitude for load and you can make load increase smoother.
3) And mesh quality is significant issue as well. Due to shape of your mesh, you can have excessive distortions in some mesh.

I would suggest you try disabling any interaction between pile and soil during the geostatic step. Then enable the interactions once you are ready to apply the loads. I had similar convergence issues, and when I adopted this technique it solved my problem.
