With the advent of growing study on biochar, its demand is rapidly increasing in developing societies as well. In response, agricultural planners are weighing options between approaches of promoting many small units at household/community scales or few large scale plants. Here the dilemma is whether to promote currently practiced open pits in the field, drum scale stove of 10-15 kgs or encourage to establish large scale commercial plant. From the perspective of CO2 emission reduction, what could be more effective especially in the context of global priority of climate change mitigation and supporting farmers to sustain productivity of their lands?
