I have been receiving dozens of messages from this journal:
Betty Liu Communications Editor Forum for Linguistic Studies ISSN: 2705-0602 (Online) ISSN: 2705-0610 (Print)
I have repeatedly asked them to stop pestering with messages asking me to submit articles or to review papers. I have written to the editor of the journal. To no avail. They keep harassing me with messages. It is now bordering on the criminal.
Dear Roberto A. Valdeon Not sure whether you can do much about it (besides ignoring or blocking them) since there are ‘issues’ with this journal.
First of all, there is a hijacked version of “Forum for Linguistic Studies” According to https://retractionwatch.com/the-retraction-watch-hijacked-journal-checker/ the following site is the hijacked version of the journal
https://acad-pubs.com/index.php/fls
But the legit version of the journal (https://fls.acad-pub.com/index.php/FLS and
https://journals.bilpubgroup.com/index.php/fls/issue/archive ) is linked to ‘issues' as well. For example, the new owner “Bilingual Publishing Group” is mentioned in the updated version of the Beall’s list (https://beallslist.net/#update ) and looking at the ‘Scopus content coverage’ here https://www.scopus.com/sourceid/21101081861 then the sudden increase in accepted and published papers is suspicious (and often a reason for discontinuation in Scopus). Update 27-11-2024: Scopus removed round 1400 papers looking at the Scopus content coverage (still the increase remains suspect).
And last but not least your experience is another red flag that this is definitely a journal to avoid.
Best regards.
I have been receiving similar emails from that journal and every time a different name signs off the email. It is never ending. I just ignore the emails and delete them.
También soy víctima reiterada de esta "revista" timo. Yo no contesto nunca, eso les confirmaría que recibo su correo, y si no tienen escrúpulos para querer timarte, menos aún para borrarte de su lista de correo.
i am also receiving so many emails tagged with this journal. Is it authentic. When i asked about scopus id they are sending me Scopus id 21101081861
But finds no information in scopus source list.
Thanks for your comments. Whether it is legit or not is irrelevant, they should not be pestering authors/reviewers like this. I receive many similar messages from other journals that I ignore and delete. However, this case was insane. I kept receiving invitations from different people apparently acting on behalf of the journal for weeks. It was insane. I kept asking them to remove my email from their mailing list. To no avail. I finally decided to forward every message to the editor-in-chief, and after a few days the messages stopped. So I now bring this to a conclusion.
When will be the updates in Scopus to see if they continue to be indexed?
I want to publish there, but now I need to think a lot about this journal - can we rely on it?
Beside the reasons I gave in my previous reply I found yet another disturbing red flag. Have a look here https://journals.bilpubgroup.com/index.php/fls/issue/archive at the year 2021 for example:
https://journals.bilpubgroup.com/index.php/fls/article/view/6497/5268
the former publisher of this journal is called WHOICE Publishing PTE. This publisher is discussed here on RG, see my reply on July 3th, 2023 https://www.researchgate.net/post/Is_AccScience_Publishing_a_reputable_publishing_house and on Retraction Watch as well https://retractionwatch.com/2021/10/12/journal-distances-itself-from-cash-for-citations-scheme-after-retraction-watch-report/
Yet another reason why not to trust the new owner “Bilingual Publishing Group”
Best regards
PS. According to http://apapa.apsci.sg/About-Us/ they are linked to dubious players like Frontier Science Press, PiscoMed Publishing and Universe Scientific Publishing all mentioned in the Beall’s list (https://beallslist.net ).
This is definitely a predatory journal. It is so annoying to receive emails from this journal. It is beyond tolerance. For some time they had stopped asking me to send them papers afyer I threatened ro take legal action. Now, they are asking me to review papers for them. Of all the predatory journal invitations, this is the worst. Please spread the word so that early career researchers do not fall prey to this journal.
I received a similar email requesting me to send them an article pertaining to my latest academic research. I felt the email a bit weird as the communication edition wrote her only first name " Tricia". This name doesn't appear in any google search. These are some sections of her email: I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to formally invite you to submit your recent research work to Forum for Linguistic Studies (ISSN: 2705-0602 (Online) ISSN: 2705-0610 (Print)), an international, peer-reviewed journal in the field of general and applied linguistics as well as philosophy of language. I am not sure why these journals have a page on scimagojr:
https://www.scimagojr.com/journalsearch.php?q=21101081861&tip=sid&clean=0
Dear Noamen Amara,
I had the same experience. Similar words, no surname in the name. Asked about my previous article themes, abstract of my new article, etc. Thanks for sharing.
Regards
Soumita Sarkar
Dear Soumita Sarkar,
Thank you for sharing the information about the same experience with the same journal. I am now convinced that we should not respond to those suspicious bodies.
Warm regards,
Noamen
Moreover, that person is continuously asking me about the budget of my next research work. I said that I am busy right now.
Dear Researchers,
Is Global Journal of Human-Social Science a Scopus-indexed journal? Today I received an email from the editor Dr Arlene T Cerny, commending my work and requesting to share my future research projects. Is this a predatory journal, or can we rely on it?
Thanks & Regards
Soumita Sarkar
Dear Soumita Sarkar
The journal “Global Journal of Human-Social Science” https://socialscienceresearch.org/index.php/GJHSS ) is not Scopus indexed (you can check here https://www.scopus.com/sources ). As a matter of fact, there are numerous red flags that it is a predatory one:
-The publisher behind this journal “Global Journals Inc.” is mentioned in the Beall’s list (https://beallslist.net )
-Scroll down here https://socialscienceresearch.org/index.php/GJHSS and you end up with numerous misleading metrics (https://beallslist.net/misleading-metrics/ ) like GIF, ESJI and CiteFactor often used by predatory journals/publishers
-There are numerous questions here on RG discussing this publisher, see for example:
https://www.researchgate.net/post/Is_Global_Journals_Inc_a_predatory_publisher
Personally, I would say avoid (and when it comes to the mail, simply ignore).
Best regards.
Dear Rob Keller,
Thank you so very much for your invaluable inputs, along with proper citation and resources to check and recheck. I am grateful to you.
Thanks & Regards
Soumita Sarkar
