Absolute and Relative growth rates are the two main calculated metrics for tree growth. Usually, these metrics come from measured field data (i.e., tree diameter measurements).
What are reasonable ranges for AGR and RGR calculations that could be used to clean data (i.e., identify erratic growth, measurement errors, dying trees, etc)?
Justifications welcome.

just to add a brief answer here:
From my reading, I have found that absolute growth for tropical trees rarely exceed 15 mm/year (Lieberman et al. Journal of Tropical Ecology 1985, Clark et al. PNAS 2003... just to name a few) in lowland tropical forests, so I think that is a good upper limit for a basic understanding of AGR.
Average absolute stem growth increment is much lower in tropical forests. I hypothesize the global average to be about 1 mm / year (based on some analyses lots of data from the CTFS network).
Observationally, stems may shrink, which complicates things, but theoretically that is impossible, so very negative growth rates should be interpreted with caution.
