The attached picture shows the scenario. on Section 6.4.5 of Eurocode 2, it states that "The outermost perimeter of shear reinforcement should be placed at a distance not greater than kd within Uout".
I want to understand why this provision is provided?
To avoid diagonal cracking due to shear which will be 45 degree from the load or force it is acting.
increasing perimeter results in increasing the resistance against punching shear. This is one of the methods to control punching failure in flat plates and flat slabs
punching shear critical perimeter is generally assumed at a distance d/2 from the face of column and geometrically similar to the column.So critical conditions are within this zone and one has to provide reinforcement if required then this zone only.
