I support one hour per day, 2 hours or 4 hours is not a good practice at undergraduate level for the reason that previous research on this topic revealed that the student can concentrate on lecture for the first 20 minutes, no matter how good the teacher or how compelling the topic. After 20 minutes students gets switched off. Longer hour lectures are not effective if they are not planned properly.
Secondly if teacher meeting students only once in a week, this may lead to discontinuity in teaching learning process for longer period and students may feel difficulty in linking the last lecture.
I have a quick question? what kind of course is this? Does it have a lab component? Otherwise, I'm not sure why 8 credits would be equal to four hours? Actually, if anything, it's possible for undergrad course hours to exceed the course's allotted credits, but not the other way around. I'm curious about the school and class. I have taught at several universities during my PhD candidacy, and I have never seen that, so maybe there's more to the course?
