Just a basic question,
For LiNbO3 plate,
do cutting axis angle and surface finish affect the propagation direction of the SAW?
For example, Y-cut with 128 degree and X-cut 128 degree or any degree
1) Is it effect the direction of SAW propagation ?
2) What are the differences use for ?

Thanks for Yuriy Pilgun's great and complete answers. One confusion about "... with the crystal Y-axis (rotated through the Z-axis) ..." — shouldn't it be rotated through the X-axis? Because it is rotated about the X-axis, it always contains the X-direction in the cut plane, while Y- and Z-axis are not (see the attached).
Of course the crystal cut has an effect of the type of the generated wave and on its caracteristics, however the surface quality do not have a considerable effect of the SAW wave (that deponds on the wavelegth of SAW). in general, the direction of propagation is chosen to be X, so your fingers must be aligned to generate SAW wave parallel to X.
