i want to design IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocols specific to GTS allocation which is also known as Contention Free period (CFP). suggestion about simulator which is suitable and i am new in that field how can i start recommended article or tutorials to start work. Thanks in Advance
I would recommend NetSim (http://www.tetcos.com), since its got an extensive 802.15.4 library, and it would be very easy to modify CAP, CFP, GTS etc.
By the way NS2 is no longer under active development and is not accepted for publications is what the forums say.
I depends on your programming skills. For me I recommend NS2. If you want to start, start with PING programming in NS2 you will undersstand it. However, you should have background in C

I agree that NS2 is not a good option anymore.

Before you commence any further with the simulator itself I recommend taking a detailed look of the revised IEEE 802.15.4-2015 standard specifications. There are a lot of changes as compared to the former 802.15.4-2011 due to vast amount of bugs and inadequate definitions found in the 2011 version as well as several amendments to the standard making drastic changes on how compliant devices may operate. There are also several different ways to implement GTS: the basic superframe CFP, TSCH, and DSME with various options on using information elements and many physical layer specifications. I recommend to first decide what you wish to implement before selection of a specific simulation model library.
i agree with Jussi Haapola Sir. All the simulators ns2, Netsim, Qualnet etc are based on IEEE 802.15.4-2006 standard. Also, NetSim and Qualnet implements the specific features according to the Zigbee. So firstly decide the application domain and the corresponding version of IEEE 802.15.4
