In section 9, Crack-like flaws, In version 2007 Residual stress evaluation for crack near to a weld metal was based on some procedure though data fitting and this has been changed in version 2016, I seems that in this version finding Through-Thickness Residual stress distribution is completely different with the old version, the new procedure which is only based on heat input data seems to me conservative, So can we still obtained the residual stress by the old version or not?
Dear Shahab, I wouldn´t do it. I don´t know the code/procedure your are using. However, you could complete the analysis following 2007 version completely, or (better) follow the latest version of 2016 (avoiding mixing them). When using these procedures one is not always aware about what is behind the different solutions or formulations, and if residual stress profiles have changed, it is surely for a given reason.
In any case, there is always a room for expertise, and as long as you use solutions that you know that they are accurate (yet conservative), you could demonstrate their suitability and convince the authorities, clients, etc
