Faculty members have various missions including teaching, scientific research and community service. In addition, some of them may hold academic positions or others. In which of these missions and positions, where you find your self? Where you like to be in your academic life? Please give your ideas
Although teaching and research are the main duties of faculty members, they can not keep away from community service because education is an integral part of nation-building. Therefore, they should try to keep a healthy balance between professional and social commitments.
As Binu Pathippallil Mathew said, these activities should be balanced in order to accomplish the goals of the academic position. On the other hand, at certain point in time we may find our selves concentrating on a particular objective or objectives based on our own judgement or external factors that dictates a new reality.
Some of the faculty members may like only teaching. Some of them may like scientific research and always try to do research and engage themselves in different projects. But those who love only teaching cannot avoid research because of their professional careers. Similarly those who love doing research and establish themselves as research scholars, must also perform their teaching responsibilities. And since all the educational institutions have social responsibility towards community, no one can avoid community service.
But though one like myself doesn't equally love all the three, s/he has to love them making a balance.
