Dear Indrajit,

I'm quite busy these days and quite frankly I neither have time nor energy to read the whole question. But I do get the gist of it. So in simple words what I think is that one's publication should not be accepted until applied/improvised in field or anything on a massive level is done about it. I believe the numbers of publication do not justify the talent or experience of one. I have peers and colleagues with so many publications in local as well as international journals, albeit when it comes to knowledge they're not even half way to the point where I stand. I'm not saying I'm super genius but they come to me for any kind of assistance in lab work and even course work. Yet I'm the one with no publication.

This is interesting question, I have following opinion on research.

Today we have all facilities including medical (average age increase significantly), communications (mobile, internet), transport (flights, trains). It is because researchers are contributing over the years to understand scientific phenomena. Whatever facility we are getting today is not due to research in last 10 or 20 years, it is contributions of researchers over the years. In simple word do not expect outcome of a research in few years. It take years for a technology from lab level to real life implementation.

If we analyse carefully most of research work carried out in last 150 years, today life is entirely different than it used to be earlier. Their are scientist whose contribution was recognize by society after their death. Any contribution to science is important may be it is not useful today but it will be utilize later. All applied sciences are based on basic sciences without understanding system, it is difficult to use system for application.

As a researchers, one should contribute according to their choice, capability and available facilities, every piece of research is important. If you are good in applied science do applied work if you are good in theoretical do basic science. You are best judge for your self to select your problem. Problem arises when one think, only his/her research area is important and start to criticize contribution of colleague researchers.

In summary every piece of research is important may be it is not useful today, it may be be useful in future. As a researcher you should select research topic best suited to you.

First of all, I would like to appreciate you for raising such insightful questions. And I am sure that these sorts of queries will give a smooth platform for the individuals to record their personal opinions. Let me pour my ideas in my way of approach to this question one by one.

Coming to your first question, I can accept that the development of ‘science and technology’ didn’t traverse the path of creating a stigma free or problem free society in India. Whereas in the other so-called developed countries they have achieved the same. This helps us to identify that the formation of problem-free or stigma-free society does not depend on the development of ‘science and technology’ and rather it depends on something else namely the cultural brought up.

Now, coming to the stigma, which arises due to caste separation. There are proofs that these kinds of caste separations existed in most of the currently developed countries. But, they were able to come out of those idiotic systems by the way of upbringing equality and humanity. But, this was not achievable in India. What could be the reason behind it? It reveals that there exists some sought of strong hold over the caste separations. It can be ascertained to the strong religious belief. Let me explain interms of its role it plays. It simply makes humans as fools as it retards the thoughtful process behind any happenings and therefore makes them believe blindly. The word ‘religious belief’ is some sort of mesmerizing word which is well fabricated or subjected to manipulation in the track of cheating the innocent layman. I can observe that many of my friends have a strong belief in god, and in this track they pray blindly, wear colourful gemstones & coloured threads in their hands. It is ridiculous that they do these kinds of things even after their so-called higher education. If we go in-depth further, many educated male or female prefer to marry in their own caste, although they demand a huge package as dowry. After marriage they don’t let their better-half to go for a job as they prefer to do the household works and serve his own family, etc. The bitter part of the story is that they are well-educated, but they are not ready to leave such things and have a strong hold over them. The education or development in ‘science and technology’ alone cannot be blamed simply for this. It is in the hands of the society to make them learn these things and it does not rest with the ‘science and technology’. And therefore I strongly believe that the society, which is the basement for a strong building of human’s mind is constructed in a wrong way owing to its religious belief. This will give space for raising another question as, why there is non-existenceof religious belief in the case of developed countries? The answer to this exiting part of the question is , ‘yes’ there too exists, but the pretty side is that they don’t mingle or confuse the religious belief with the ‘science and technology’.

And finally coming to the paper publications and the research out-puts. In my view, there is nothing to worry in terms of the publications which come out ofthe researcher. It simply conveys us of what researchers are doing up to date in the science and technology. The data can be an add-over information about something. For ex, your research work may not be useful for me, and in the same way it can be the other way round. But, ultimately our own research gives benefit to ourselves at least. We cannot say that the ‘there is even a single research work is waste’. In fact all research works can benefit the next generation researchers for sure and there is nothing called as a ‘waste research’.

With all the aforementioned views, I don’t have any other opinions left out for the revamp of the educational system in India.
