How to separate water soluble molecule from water ? There are some methods by adding water absorbing material. How it is possible to extract in a bench top experiment? Please give procedure for this separation by using easily available materials?
Most of the cases, we can use THF/DCM for polar and hexane/ pentane for nonpolar compounds as extracting solvent after saturated the aqueous solution with NaCl/ NaHCO3. But in my case it is difficult to extract with the above solvent. May be because of the presence of hydroxyl groups in carbohydrates moiety.
Lyophilisation (or concentration Under vacuum), the residue could be after triturated in an organic solvant to be dissolved and filtration if salts have to be removed.
- Extraction from water by using butanol, we get good results also in similar cases by using mixture CH2Cl2 / Butanol or MeOH / water (the organic phase enriched by an alcool could change drastikly the partition.
- Retention of the organic compound on a resin, not necessary ion exchange but simply neutral Dowex or..., then filtration and reextraction from the resin by an organic solvant.
