Hello, my project will use a quantitative dataset, then a qualitative data collected from semistructured interviews. Does this design then allow me to integrate results in a descriptive format , after the separate analyses?
In an explanatory sequential design, you begin by obtaining a set of quantitative results and then design your qualitative study help you understand those earlier results (i.e., the qualitative helps "explain" what you learned through the quantitative).
Does this design (Explanatory Sequential) then allow me to integrate results in a descriptive format , after the separate analyses?
In MMR's Explanatory Sequential design, there can be separate analyses due to the uniqueness of each research method. But their results need to be integrated in sequential step and in explanatory manner as its name suggested i.e. the first Quan part is for you to zoom into specific research details based on your tested hypotheses whereas the second Qual part is the continuation from previous Quan part so that you can dive in further to investigate & explain why and / or how such phenomena / observation is happening for further knowledge contribution.
Hi Rhea I also use the explanatory mixed method. As far as I know the explanatory methods requires one to first collect quantitative date , analyse it and use the results to develop qualitative semi structure interview. The interview questions should explain further why the population responded in the quantitative research. Then you discuss two findings and make conclusion.
