Does anybody know if approval from an institutional ethics committee is required to do the fish schooling practical for an animal behavior class in Europe? The practical, described for example in Price & Stokes (1975), involves holding fish in plastic bottles and moving them around the acuarium.
Ethics approval is necessary for all researches especially, human and animal research and wherever in the World.
It might depend on the country where you plan to conduct your research. In Sweden you definitetly need ethica approval for such an experiment. My interpretation of the EU directive on use of animals for scientific purposes is that you need it for the kind of experiment you describe.
