EIS is a technique used to study the electrical properties of a system by measuring its impedance response to an applied AC voltage at different frequencies.

In the case of a capacitor, the EIS results typically involve plotting impedance parameters against frequency. The most common parameters analyzed in EIS of capacitors are:

Impedance magnitude (|Z|): It represents the overall opposition to the flow of alternating current and is plotted on the y-axis. At low frequencies, the impedance magnitude is usually high, indicating capacitive behavior, while at high frequencies, it decreases, approaching a constant value indicating the behavior of an ideal capacitor.

Phase angle (ϕ): It represents the phase difference between the applied voltage and the resulting current and is plotted on the x-axis. At low frequencies, the phase angle is close to 90 degrees, indicating capacitive behavior, while at high frequencies, it approaches 0 degrees, indicating resistive behavior.

By analyzing the EIS plot of a capacitor, several characteristics can be determined:

Capacitance value: The frequency at which the impedance magnitude starts to decrease can be used to calculate the capacitance value. At this frequency, the capacitor exhibits capacitive behavior, and its impedance is dominated by the capacitive reactance.

Equivalent series resistance (ESR): ESR represents the resistive component in series with the capacitor. It can be estimated by analyzing the high-frequency region of the EIS plot where the impedance magnitude approaches a constant value.

Equivalent parallel resistance (Rp): Rp represents the resistance that appears in parallel with the capacitance. It can be estimated by analyzing the low-frequency region of the EIS plot where the impedance magnitude is high.

Equivalent series capacitance (Cp): Cp represents the capacitance that appears in series with the ESR. It can be estimated by analyzing the high-frequency region of the EIS plot, where the impedance magnitude approaches a constant value.
