Albert Einstein is quoted to have said: “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” In your experience and opinion, how can education be improved to cater for the different talents, skills and abilities of students? Is putting everyone in the same classroom and teaching them the same things in spite of the different interests truly productive?
Taking into account individual differences ... and the different mental capabilities of individuals ... is essential ... these capabilities are developed through their development ... and encourage them to creativity and innovation ... so we can make out of nothing ... something through support and motivation
Olutayo Kadmiel Osunsan Your question is legitimate. At a time like this, the distinction became too obvious to be ignored. In light of the general tendency of teachers to give students equal opportunities and to highlight their mental abilities at the same time. However, teachers are able to capture creative or genius students. They can discover the superiority of a student in a particular aspect and thus try to develop this and shed light on it by discussing with the parents and the school administration. It is my belief that the students' genius should not be an obstacle to their enjoyment of the opportunity to experience the joy of learning with their peers. Intelligence is a blessing, not a curse. A way to shine, not a reason for isolation. On the other hand, some developing countries dedicate special schools or institutes for ”gifted students” I honestly disagree with such approach. Maybe if it was a 3 or 2 days a week classes at an institute.
In my viewpoint, what is needed a sort of balance. We need to have a common core that all students master, both in terms of skills, and in terms of knowledge. Nowadays, I feel there is much preference given to skills, but I would not underestimate knowledge as well. For instance, having knowledge in the humanities means that you build up a language of its own — a language of culture. If we do not share knowledge, we will simply not have enough topics for conversations, and we will not share the argumentation ground either. On the other hand, it is one of the teacher's tasks to see a talent when there is one, and support it. In my country, for instance, there is a research programme for secondary schools called Secondary School Academic Work. This programme supports talented young researchers and let them present their first papers publicly.
