Dear altruists,

I was wondering if there is a simple and easy method to calculate the energy dissipated in a hysteresis loop. Basically, it is a task of integrating the area inside the loop for every cycle. I understand it can be done using numerical integration using a trapezoidal formula.

But for each loop, I have to integrate the area under the portions of the curve in positive and negative signs. Then, the area outside the loop has to be integrated and subtracted from the previous area value. This can be very tedious for a hysteresis curve with many loops.

I was hoping someone could share an easy method or code.

Thank you.
