"E-government" and "digital transformation" are related terms, but they have slightly different connotations and scopes, so they are not entirely interchangeable. However, they do share some similarities, particularly in the context of the public sector and administration.
E-Government (Electronic Government): This term refers to the use of electronic communication technologies, particularly the internet, to deliver government services, exchange information, and engage with citizens, businesses, and other government entities. E-government encompasses a wide range of activities, such as online service delivery, digital communication, electronic record-keeping, and online public participation. It often focuses on making government services more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly through digital means.
Digital Transformation: This term refers to the broader process of using digital technologies to fundamentally change how organizations operate, deliver value, and interact with stakeholders. In the context of public administration, digital transformation involves the comprehensive integration of digital technologies into all aspects of governance, service delivery, and policy-making. It's not only about adopting new technologies but also rethinking processes, structures, and strategies to leverage the full potential of digital advancements.
While "e-government" emphasizes the adoption of electronic technologies to enhance government-citizen interaction and service delivery, "digital transformation" has a more extensive scope, encompassing organizational change and innovation across the entire public administration. Digital transformation involves a deeper shift in mindset and strategy to embrace digital tools and methodologies for holistic improvements.
In summary, while "e-government" can be considered a subset of "digital transformation," they are not direct alternatives. If you are discussing the use of digital technologies specifically for improving government-citizen interaction and service delivery, "e-government" is a suitable term. If you are referring to the broader and more comprehensive integration of digital technologies to transform the entire public administration, "digital transformation" would be a more appropriate term.
(@Omid Vakili )Thank you for your answer , You have my utmost appreciation, but i d'ont ask about "digital transformation" vs "E-government"... my question between "digital transformation in public sector" and "E-government" .
hi, I think digitalization of public servivces or digital transformation in public sector is one of the step or strategy that will the government use to turn their conservative approach on deliverying services to electronical-based public services delivery
Yes it can be used to usher in the government digital transformation and perpetuate public digital services, however that will require sound infrastructure investment in public sector in general
There is no agreed upon definition for these two , researcher can define it in his or her work.In my opinion e government is general and digital is a special and progressed state of it.
