It depends on the kind of procedure: replicating an old one or doing a new one (in this case it depends on the aim of the study. In our procedures we normally took five days of aquisition and from 1 until 3 test days (test days are as the aquisition days followed by the test trial).
For statistical analysis in SPSS it depends quite a lot on what are you measuring. We normally use ANOVA and t-test (this last one for one specific measure). Some authors also use Bonferroni and Tukey)
You can use Morris water maze with 5 days acquisiton with starting point changed for each trial and then retrieval is tested on sixth day. (In our study we generally used 4 day acquisition + 5th day retrieval).
After collection of data you can apply ANOVA followed by Tukeys or Bonferroni test.
