@Yuri Mirgorod, Thank you for the article, but I am only trying to modify the polymers and needed insights with the chemistry of the process since the polymers are cationic.

I think it can be done by the conventional methods of AuNPs synthesis. In brief, disperse your polymers/surfactant in aqueous or suitable media, add Au precursor ,such as H+/AuCl4-, which will electrostatically adhere to the vicinity of cationic charge of the polymer/surfactant, homogenize the mixture by ultrasound at suitable temperature and add the reducing agent to form polymers/surfactant functionalized/caped AuNPs. You may tune the size shape and stability by varying the concentrations of the polymer/surfactant or Au precursor. You may see the following links:
