Data homogenization is a technique for finding and fixing artificial inhomogeneities in the data series due, e.g., to station relocation, changes in the surrounding environment (e.g. trees growing close to the station) or in the instruments.

Such artificial changes usually affect a series covering more than a few years of data and can seriously deviate its statistics.
