The question is inspired by a conversation with a friend - Paul Gray. We wonder if we can resolve the problems associated with the singularity if it can be shown that the singularity never actually quite forms.

If we are falling into a black hole and we can see back in the direction from which we have come from, then we observe time speeding up - we would witness the universe accelerate towards its ultimate demise. Presumably, this would also be true of the matter that first formed the black hole. This might mean that the singularity is always on the verge of forming - as if frozen in time.
