There is probably no other science portal that would offer all the same functions for researchers as the Research Gate portal.

The RG is a nice research portal where we can share our scientific knowledge. We can get information from here. But sometimes some researchers are inactive in RG. They do not upload their recent research articles in RG portal. Even they do not response to the request for full text of their articles. In that case we miss some new information. The RG authority may help in that case by collecting and providing/uploading those articles.

I think it's less about information services and more about social media for nerds (not in a bad labelling kinda way). I mean i don't find it useful for most part, but it's fun to connect with other people with the same interest for research.
I think that ResearchGate (RG) can become whatever is the perception of the user that navigates it. My perception of its use is to be informed and updated on the new important streams of research in different branches of science and technology carried out by individuals, research groups, universities and organizations. Also, I consider that RG is one of the most interesting platforms you can find online to discuss research problems and a powerful tool to disseminate scientific information and find research collaboration.
In reality I expect more from ResearchGate - more proposals to researchers for research projects, more articles put fully on ResearchGate pages, more necessary questions and answers, more of everything... But it depends on our participation in RG - it is a question of time, I think, when RG will become more developed and used.
I use RG mainly as an archive of my own published and unpublished research papers. Many unpublished papers that I presented at professional meetings are difficult for other researchers to obtain; I hope they are of interest to other researchers.
