I have a electrolyser membrane coated only with anode (Supported Ir). I have to do BET measurements to determine the BET surface area.

I have measured the uncoated membrane and determined it's contribution towards the BET surface area to be negligible.

However, I am concerned about the mass contribution of the membrane skewing the results.

Is this something I should account for ? and if so , what are my options?

My first instinct would be to simply coat a known mass of membrane and subtract that from the mass input into the BET analyser. But I am unsure whether that is too crude.
