The procedure is very simple and based on Periodic Acid - Schiff (PAS) staining for glycosylated proteins having sialic acid and other oxidizable carbohydrate groups. One kit is sufficient for 10 mini gels. Since the procedure is not very sensitive I would recommend to load double amount of protein that you usually load for Coomassie gel. You can first stain your gel with this kit for glycoproteins, make a picture of the gel, and then stain the same gel with Coomassie Blue. In that case, you will have two pictures of the same gel clearly showing which of your proteins are glycosylated, and which are not. You can also use this kit for staining the glycoproteins on your western blot membranes. Good luck !
Certain glycan residues are different in plant glycoproteins as compared to that of mamamls. My question is whether Pierce (Life Technologies) Glycoprotein Staining Kit works well with plants also.
