In a closed AC circuit, while the electrons on each limb return during each half cycle, the power doesn't return. Net power is fed into the circuit during each half cycle. In the case of single wire Earth return, one of the half cycles would involve an attempt to push the power through the Earth. The resistance will be higher during this half of the cycle. Does this reduce or increase the lossless capacitative power transfer mechanism?
