From one thesis i've read recently, it provides me a statement going like this: Rayleigh scattering theory assumes that in the polarization process, there is no phase position difference in whole particle; while in Mie scattering theory, phase position differences in different locations in a particle are considered. What trouble me is that is the phase position differences affect the calculation of optical efficiency or other optical properties? And how to explain it in theory?
