when I bring this material up from the very dusty basement to my living room to read is there radon gas on the dusty surface of the book that I am now trailing through my house? should I dispose to the books, and if so is there a special method or can they be they somehow be cleaned?

There is no need to clean or dispose of the books because of radon in the basement. Radon and progeny on the books is trivial. Book dust might contain mold, bacterial, and animal waste that could cause an allergic reaction.

As Joseph says above, you do not need to worry about radon and progeny on books. In any case, by cleaning the dust from books or other items you will remove all mold, bacterial etc and (if any) radon decay products (radon daughters).
