answers in regards of the notion- Rescheduling Fisheries Education towards entrepreneurship development among the fisheries graduates and scholars. This question requires your point as YES or NO with WHY YES or WHY NO. Other modifications are also welcomed.
Strangely all the Deans of Fisheries colleges in India have removed the subject which was included in the earlier syllabus of the graduate course.
Business ideas, places of various business plans, its formulation, implementation, monitoring & evaluation are all important aspects of the subject. By studying this subject, a student will come to now how fisheries business can be developed, technologies required, marketing strategies, manpower required & it's economic viability. He will also understand about gestation period, SWOT analysis, the infrastructure needed & various types of capital & non-capital expenditures.
This subject needs to be incorporated which will help a student to go in for entrepreneurship after graduation. Fisheries is one sector where potential is immense & in a free economy, he need not go behind searching for jobs.
Fisheries syllabus in the graduate course has incorporated "Experinential Programme" for 6 months as the whole of the seventh semester. In short, it is knowing the market demand for newer products/technologies/processes etc, make them at govt cost & market them.
But the question is for such a program to be carried out for 6 months is too large a time, it could still be done in a shorter time. In fact, they are presently doing this without studying anything about Entrepreneurship development in Fisheries & not knowing about Project formulations & management.
Thank you sir for you suggestion. we also tried the same to uplift this issue in the ICAR-CIFE Students convention held recently in a brainstorming session on higher education scheduled in presence of the 5th Deans committee. They have taken this into account. But the suggestion was also raised as to incorporate this particular syllabus with students in their 1st year itself. These students are then suppose to come out with a short business plan or project, in groups or individual, by the start of 2nd year so that they can target a good business mindset and skill development in their coming session of Hands-on training and In-plant training program. This could be a better and worthy aspect of carving entrepreneurial graduates at the end of the curriculum.

Students should first go through the various practicals for at least 6 semesters so as to get a thorough knowledge of each of the various subjects to be studied, only then they can have ideas of various inputs needed for entrepreneurship development.
Hence I differ with the point that the subject to be incorporated in the first semester itself.
This will be useful provided the structuring of the course as well as implementation is planned not only from the context of fisheries plans but more inclusive to understand how generally business projects are to be designed.
Attention should be also provided to look at how to build entrepreneurial attitude in the students, and other soft aspects needed to effectively run a business. I am not aware of the contents of the proposed course. If the details are posted then specific suggestions can be provided.
Chinmaya Nanda I don't have experience of fisheries education but as per the subject is concerned it is very much suitable for promoting a business idea for budding entrepreneurs.
