Halogenated compound is a natural and synthetic chemical compound that constitutes of one or more halogen atoms (chlorine, flourine, bromine or iodine). Example of halogenated compound can be trichloroethane, 2,2-dichloropropionic acid, 3-chloropropionate etc. These compound can be degraded or reacted by dehalogenase enzyme produced by bacteria through process of dehalogenation which catalyze the removal the carbon-halogen bond from the compound.
