In the religious country like India where the, majority of tourist travel across the country with intention of worshipping, rituals and other religious activities. The project is intended to explore whether food quality matters under such situations.

I agree food quality is vital. Speaking from an outside view of the country I believe that regardless of the intent of travel, the experience that one has while on the journey is almost as important as the journey itself.
When I travel I take routes that bring me the shortest distance but if there are not good things to eat in that path I find other ways to go. I look forward to finding local places that bring me joy in the food I eat.

Yes. Very much. As much as quality it is also a matter of getting safe & hygienic food that doesn't cause travel sickness. Safe water and proper systems to dispose food waste will also keep environment clean and protect from spread of diseases.

Condé Nast Traveller (CNT) examined 207 tourism places in the world and told Indian restaurants are best (News from today's local daily paper in Telugu language, attached).
Different kinds of food preparations represent the culture and social status of the region. When tourists visiting a particular place demand for local food not only to satisfy their hunger but also experience and get acquainted with the local culture and food diversity. It is, there, variety of good quality and delicious food is motivational factors for promotion of tourism.
The question seems to be missing the direction and perhaps it is more scattered. The tourist destination or any place that is visited by people for different reasons is essentially a place where people find their purpose served. If the purpose or the primary objective of visiting the place is not to relish the local cuisines or if the specialty of the place is not in having the natural productivity of certain food items, the FOOD QUALITY can not be considered as the factor variable (cause) for an attraction or flow of tourism. So, may be if its not the factor variable, controlling this would have no impact on the flow of tourism. In other words it seems to me, a conditional situation where under very specific circumstances only food and its quality can be used as a means to control the tourism.
Further, for this kind of correlational study a very well thought research design may be required.

So we can say food quality always matter.
A better understanding of the pull factors could be comprehensively covered under this category of tourists and Quality could be one such factor. The strength of this factor would be subdued if the assumption that domestic tourism is only about religious and spirituality is taken at large. Other factors which would include the Pull factors then would play a more role here.
